Though primarily known for his music videos (for UK musicians like Chase & Status and Kano, as well as Japanese stars King Gnu), Taichi Kimura announces his arrival on the feature film scene with the gorgeously lensed, enigmatic love story Afterglows. It’s being screened with English subtitles at the increasingly popular Theatre Guild in Daikanyama.

The story follows Teru Morishima, a cab driver living a solitary existence following the tragic suicide of his girlfriend Sayuri, a popular singer. Teru has a radio program and recalls his memories of life with Sayuri as he drives around vivid Tokyo nightscapes.

Then one night, he encounters a woman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Sayuri. He quickly becomes obsessed with unraveling her mystery and the boundaries of reality blur as his actions become increasingly erratic.

Portrayed in a stunning monochrome world of light and shadows, Afterglows fairly throbs with loss, loneliness and the chance of reconnection.
