Duration: 85 min
Sports anime fans thronged the release of Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump a few months back, and the distributor treated international audiences to English subtitles. Now the hit film, based on Haruichi Furudate's popular volleyball manga, moves to Shimokitazawa, again with subs.
Based on the original Weekly Shonen Jump manga series from Furudate, Haikyu!! is set in middle school, and follows protagonist Shoyo Hinata, a fanatic about volleyball, who creates a team in his last year of middle school. In their final tournament, they’re matched against the "King of the Court" Tobio Kageyama's team and inevitably lose. After that crushing defeat, Hinata vows to surpass Kageyama in high school. But when he gets there, he finds that Kageyama has joined the same team.

Reviews for the film version have been stellar, guaranteeing success for the next film in the two-part series. In this first part, the battle between Karasuno High School, a super-aggressive team, and Nekoma High School, whose motto is “tsunagi” (connection) is depicted. The finale has earned particular raves, with many audience members admitting they needed tissues for the emotional impact.
