Title: 機動戦士ガンダム THE ORIGIN 誕生 赤い彗星 (Kido Senshi Gundam The Origin Tanjo Akai Suisei)
Director: Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (安彦良和)
Duration: 85 min

If you’re a fan of the mecha anime, here’s a truly unique opportunity to see the sixth and final episode of Sunrise’s Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin anime series, in an English version with Japanese subs, on a single night in Shinjuku.

Char Aznable and Garma Zabi, son of Degwin Sodo Zabi

The episode is based on manga writer (and character designer of the original 1979 anime TV series) Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s adaptation of the earlier origin chronicles, and features the last in the anime's Loum Arc, focusing on Zeon ace Char Aznable’s adventures as he earns his Red Comet nom de guerre. It also marks the beginnings of the Federation's Project V weapons project, which eventually results in the RX-78-2 Gundam.

The storyline continues the decisive battle between Zeon and the Earth Federation January 23, U.C. 0079, which began at Side 5, or Loum. The Zeon forces are overwhelmingly outnumbered, but their secret plan to deploy a special assault regiment made up of humanoid mobile suit weapons, results in turning the tide of the battle, giving them a huge victory. Zeon fighter Char Aznable produces particularly impressive results in his red mobile suit Zaku II, earning him a promotion to Lieutenant Commander and the nickname Red Comet.

Char's Zaku II

After the Battle of Loum, the Earth Federation Forces initiate Operation V to fight back against Zeon. At Side 7, young Amuro Ray is indirectly involved as he takes action to uncover the secret of the new weapon Gundam. Meanwhile, as high officials of the Earth Federation and Zeon forces meet in Antarctica for early peace negotiations, a speech is broadcast from Luna II throughout the world...

Rise of the Red Comet is being shown for one month only at just 35 selected theaters across Japan, before being released on DVD/Blu-ray.
