Title: 長岡大花火 打ち上げ、開始でございます (Nagaoka O Hanabi Uchiage, Kaishi de Gozaimasu)
Director: Akikazu Sakagami (坂上明和)
Duration: 100 min

For the hanabi connoisseurs among you, get a jump on the summer events — and avoid unpredictable weather, overcrowded viewing areas and persistent mosquitoes — with the very special English-subtitled release of Nagaoka Grand Fireworks: A Symbol of the Indomitable Spirit of the Nagaoka People for a week from July 5-11.

The Nagaoka Fireworks are one of Japan's three major fireworks events, and this doc was filmed at the 2023 festival to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Chuetsu Earthquake in 2024.

Capturing the dedication of the artisans and the impact on spectators, as well as showcasing the latest festival and historical footage, the film invites the audience to settle back and take in this “must-visit” event from the comfort of air-conditioned seats.

The people of Nagaoka pour their hearts and souls into the festival every year, and the film delves into the history of the event, featuring interviews with pyrotechnicians, event organizers, and civic staff, revealing the work and dedication of those who sustain this tradition.
