Yokoso! Eigakan! (Welcome to the theater!) is back with its fourth anime release embracing the international community and tourists: English- and Chinese-subtitled screenings of the latest chapter in the One Piece series, one of Japan’s most enduringly popular manga and animated franchises.
First published as a manga in 1997, the series has continued for 81 volumes, all written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. As of June 2015, there were 320 million copies in print worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained the power of being rubbery after eating devil fruit. With his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy searches for the world's ultimate treasure, known as One Piece, so he can become the next King of the Pirates.
(For those readers who read/watch the series, the following will make perfect sense. The rest of you may want to skip to the next paragraph.) One Piece Film Gold is apparently linked to the Silver Mine arc that debuts on June 26, in which Luffy and Bartolomeo are kidnapped by the Silver Pirate Alliance and taken to the pirates' stronghold, a giant silver mine. They will naturally attempt to escape their kidnappers, leading to One Piece Film Gold, which introduces the evil Gild Tesoro, a casino king who controls the huge golden ship Gran Tesoro. A devil fruit user who ate the Gol Gol fruit, he is said to possess 20% of the monetary Beli that exist in the world…
Glim Spanky sings the new film’s theme song, and the special voice talent includes Kazuhiro Yamaji, Hikari Mitsushima, Gaku Hamada and Nanao.
One Piece Film Gold will open in Japan on an unprecedented 739 screens, with screenings in 3D, 4DX and MX4D — just in time for summer vacation.
Theater chain operators T-Joy, in partnership with the Japan Foundation and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), created Yokoso! Eigakan! in 2015, presenting the English- and Chinese-subbed versions of some of the hottest new animated titles, to attract both non-Japanese residents in Japan, as well as visitors. T-Joy aims to create a premium movie-viewing environment, offering free gifts, exclusive food items and merchandise that is available only at the time of the release in Japan.
One Piece Film Gold is the fourth Yokoso! Eigakan! release, following Garakawa: Restore the World, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' and The Anthem of the Heart.
