Cinema K2 Shimokitazawa continues its mission to bring bold, English-subtitled Japanese cinema to local audiences—and this time, it’s going gloriously off the rails. The latest title is the Killer Goldfish, a genre-smashing horror-comedy by director Yukihiko Tsutsumi, best known for cult hits like 2LDK, SPEC, and 20th Century Boys. It's on screen from July 11.

Premiered to wild applause at the Fantasporto International Film Festival this spring, The Killer Goldfish is the first theatrical feature from SUPER SAPIENSS, a next-gen storytelling unit powered by Web3 and co-led by Tsutsumi, Katsuhiro Motohiro, and Yuichi Sato.

At the center of the madness is Erika, a sharp-edged paranormal investigator tracing a series of grotesque murders. The common thread? A goldfish left at each scene. But these aren’t your average carnival pets—they’re psychic, vengeful, and part of a millennia-old conspiracy involving Neanderthals, reincarnation, and ancient grudges that refuse to die.

Tsutsumi calls it “a grand revenge epic spanning all of human history,” and the film wastes no time blending horror, buddy-cop procedural, sci-fi absurdism, slapstick comedy, and feverish myth. One critic described it as “what happens when Scooby-Doo is directed by a caffeinated Cronenberg.” You’ve been warned.
